Investigation continues
BC Coroners Service and Powell River RCMP are continuing their search for the identity of the human remains discovered July 29.
The human remains were located on the shore of the north end of Harwood Island.
Finding the identity of the individual is the first step of the investigation, said RCMP Staff Sergeant Andy Brinton, and they are looking at their missing persons list for leads.
The process of identifying the remains has been slow because of the condition of the remains, Brinton explained. However, he said they hope to have more information in the next couple of weeks as test results come in.
Power poles
BC Hydro will replace power poles in Powell River over the next several months.
Pole replacement typically does not require the agency to disconnect power. However, if outages need to be scheduled, it will notify customers.
Over time, wooden poles weaken due to weather conditions, insects, birds and wildlife. BC Hydro regularly inspects the old poles and invests in new poles to maintain the system.
Setting it straight
In an article in the Peak last week about hotel tax, distribution of funds raised by the tax was incorrectly stated. Municipal and regional district tax revenue will go to Sunshine Coast Tourism, with 75 per cent being added to its marketing budget and 25 per cent to be part of a community projects fund, to which local groups can apply.
