July’s weather was sunnier, warmer but also wetter than average, according to weather observer John Ede.

The month’s daily average temperature was 18.8° Celsius, almost two degrees warmer than Environment Canada’s historical climate data for July at 17.2°C. The daily maximum temperature was 25.0°C, while the daily minimum temperature during the month was 12.6°C.

July was wetter than normal with a total rainfall of 67 millimetres.

Ede recorded on July 23 that 45.2 millimetres of rain fell in one day and the majority of that, 39.4 millimetres, fell during the night. Environment Canada’s historical normal for precipitation during the month is 37.5 millimetres.

Powell River enjoyed 328 hours of sunshine during July, well above the average 279.6 hours.

“It’s been a warm month and it doesn’t look like there’ll be any break soon,” said Ede.


School district transfers

Tawnie Gaudreau has been transferred from Kelly Creek Community School to Edgehill Elementary School. Kristen Brach moves from Edgehill to Kelly Creek and Henderson Elementary School and Scott Fisher from Henderson to Westview Elementary School. Andrew Shostak is Kelly Creek’s new vice-principal. Tony Rice joins Rod Perrault as vice-principals at Brooks Secondary School. Rice takes over from Shannon Behan, who has been appointed principal of the district’s International Education programs. She will also serve as principal at a BC off-shore high school in Beijing.
