Meeting summary

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) has released notes from its public discussion with residents of Powell River over the recent scandals involving an unlicensed radiologist.

The notes summarize information given by VCH officials who attended the meeting along with questions asked by attendees and the answers they received. The meeting and notes are part of an ongoing effort by the health authority to re-establish trust with the public.

The notes can be found online. Hard copies are also available at Powell River General Hospital’s information desk.

High flying

Powell River General Hospital’s helicopter pad has been okayed to open for daytime flights after over eight months of upgrades, estimated to cost $515,000. Originally the helicopter pad was slated for reopening in June but the hospital needed to develop a manual for helicopter procedures that required approval from Transport Canada.

Upgrades are still ongoing to allow nighttime use of the pad. The hospital is waiting for BC Hydro to finish its portion of the work. For now all nighttime helicopter flights are going in and out of Powell River airport.

Ramp accident

BC Ferries cancelled the first two round-trip sailings of the Queen of Chilliwack on Friday, December 9 after a fuel truck jackknifed on the ferry ramp at Little River and damaged the ramp’s railing.

Service resumed with the 2:30 pm sailing from Comox.
