Association ratifies contract

BC Public School Employers’ Association (BCPSEA) has ratified two-year collective agreements for support staff in 11 school districts, including Powell River.

The collective agreements were reached through discussions between BCPSEA, the accredited bargaining agent for the province’s 60 public boards of education, and union bargaining teams representing kindergarten to grade 12 support staff. Agreements are ratified by the local school board and union teams with a final ratification by the board of BCPSEA. They were reached under the government’s 2010 net-zero mandate.

Good audits

Four community forest operations on the Sunshine Coast passed audits of their operations. BC’s Forest Practices Board audited Tla’Amin (Sliammon) and Klahoose first nations, Powell River and Sechelt community forests. The audit found that all complied with provincial forestry legislation and were following the requirements of the Forest and Range Practices Act and the Wildfire Act.
