City of Powell River council passed a motion at the February 2 meeting approving $17,666 in grants-in-aid from the 2011 grant budget.

The motion approved $8,166 to Powell River Action Centre Food Bank, to assist with costs for rent and expenses, and $2,000 to Powell River District Christmas Cheer Committee. As well, the motion approved 2010 discretionary grants of $5,000 to Powell River Child, Youth and Family Services Society to sustain the Youth Advisory Council, and $2,500 to Powell River Sea Fair Society for assistance with the fireworks display.

The 2011 grant budget was $120,000. Of that, $37,700 was forwarded to Powell River Council for Arts, Culture and Heritage Society and $40,000 went to sports and culture grant funds. As well, $5,000 was pre-approved, which left a balance of $37,300.


Committee nominations

Powell River’s local governments have appointed members of the BC Ferries’ Northern Sunshine Coast Ferry Advisory Committee.

City of Powell River council passed a motion to nominate Bill Cripps, Jacquie Donaldson, Chris McNaughton, Doug Skinner, Ken White and Debbie Dee as an alternate.

Powell River Regional District board of directors appointed Warren Kiland, Sandy McCormick, Ken Rowe, Jane Cameron and Patrick Brabazon as regional district representatives.
