Call out to former workers
Anyone who has worked at Olive Devaud Residence since it opened in 1967 is being invited back for a commemorative photograph.
Leonard Wegner, manager of residential care for Vancouver Coastal Health in Powell River, said the picture will be taken on February 19 at 10 am. “The invitation is for anyone who worked at Olive Devaud in any capacity over the years. The photo will be taken in the main lounge area and hung in the new Willingdon Creek Village when it is complete.”
Members of the public are also being invited to take part in a pancake breakfast from 9 to 11 am on the same day.
“Long-term service awards will be presented at that time as well,” said Wegner.
Currently there are 100 employees at the facility on Kemano Street.
Money for a good cause
More than $6.6 million for BC children with special needs was raised during the 48th annual Variety Show of Hearts.
The telethon broadcast on Global BC was held at Hard Rock Casino Theatre in Coquitlam Saturday and Sunday, January 25 and 26.
Variety—the Children’s Charity has raised more that $170 million since 1965. It helped 1,277 families and 32 organizations across the province last year with funding for equipment, therapies, programs and emergency transportation to out-of-community hospitals for specialized treatment and support.
“We can’t thank the people of BC enough,” said Bernice Scholten, Variety’s executive director.
