Bus off road
ORCA (On the Road with Children’s Activities) Bus has failed its inspection and is officially off the road, meaning there will be programming changes for September start-up.
A working group has been formed to purchase a new bus, which costs $150,000. It has raised $40,000. Donations are being accepted at First Credit Union to Success By 6 designated for ORCA Bus Replacement Campaign.
ORCA Bus will be the charity of choice at this year’s Movie Under the Stars, hosted by First Credit Union next month.
“ORCA Bus project is an integral part of early childhood learning,” said Nadine Porchetta, Success By 6 coordinator. “Many families from Lund to Saltery Bay and Texada Island, including all stops in-between, utilize this free service.”

Centennial party
Catalyst Paper Corporation is planning a special 100th birthday celebration in Powell River.
On April 12, 1912, the first rolls of newsprint manufactured in Western Canada came off No. 1 paper machine.
“Right now we are in the planning process,” Rajvir Basra, manager of corporate communications, said Monday, July 16. “It’ll be a fun-filled family event.”
Invitations will be sent to current employees, retirees and their families. “We want to reach as many retirees as possible because they are spread all over,” said Basra.
The party will be held at the mill site from 11 am to 4 pm on Saturday, September 15.
