Resident finds doctor
A newcomer to Powell River has found a family doctor. Powell River General Hospital administration contacted George Roberts and subsequently he went to the emergency department for a checkup. The emergency room doctor told him he had found a physician who would take him as a patient. Roberts said he always had faith his situation would work out.
As reported in last week’s Peak, doctors in Powell River are not accepting new patients. Newcomers are advised to go to the emergency room to see a doctor, since Powell River doesn’t have a walk-in clinic.
Playground funds
Three schools in Powell River have received playground funding from the provincial government. École Côte de Soleil received $50,000, while James Thomson and Edgehill elementary schools received $25,000 each.
BC’s government is spending $3.3 million to repair and replace playgrounds at 80 schools across BC in the last phase of an $8-million program.
Formal complaint
A Powell River resident has filed a complaint against the City of Powell River under Section 172 of the Community Charter. George Orchiston alleges that city officials did not have “legitimate approval” of council to permit the construction of the new barge terminal facility.
Council has passed a motion to give notice to the city auditor, BDO Dunwoody, of the complaint. Orchiston claims any city funds spent during 2011 “to facilitate and maintain this action, was unauthorized and improper.”
