Service resumes

After two months and $30 million-worth of construction, BC Ferries resumed regular service between Powell River, Vancouver Island and Texada Island Monday, March 10.

Between January 12 and March 9, during upgrades to the terminals at Little River and Westview, the Island Sky handled trips between Saltery Bay, Vancouver Island and, at times, Texada Island. The vessel will continue to transport cars and passengers between Westview and Little River until mid-April when it will return to serving the Earls Cove-Saltery Bay route. The Queen of Burnaby, the route’s regular vessel, has been filling in for the Queen of Nanaimo.

BC Ferries reports that both terminal projects were completed on budget and on time.

The ferry corporation is planning customer appreciation events on Thursday, March 13, from 11 am to 2 pm at Westview terminal and 1 to 4 pm at Little River.

The Tachek will be replacing the North Island Princess from Wednesday, March 12 through to May, on the Blubber Bay-Westview run. The North Island Princess will be taken out of service for scheduled maintenance.

Budget meetings

Two City of Powell River budget meetings are scheduled for 2 to 4 pm Monday, March 17, in the Elm Room, Powell River Recreation Complex, and 10 am to 4 pm Wednesday, April 9, in the supper room at Dwight Hall. The agenda items for the March 17 meeting are the water and sewer budgets; the April 9 meeting will address the integrated budget, essentially the draft budget.
