ATV crash sends two to hospital

An all-terrain vehicle crash drew emergency services to the scene on Block Bay Road at Timberlane Avenue Monday, May 26.

At 9 pm Powell River RCMP along with BC Ambulance Service and Powell River Fire Rescue responded to the single-vehicle accident.

A 22-year-old female driver and a 14-year-old female passenger were both seriously injured as a result of the accident, according to RCMP constable Tim Kenning.

In a news release about the incident, Kenning said “The females were travelling northbound along the Powell River pole line known as Block Bay Road and lost control while crossing the intersection at Timberlane Avenue.”

Air ambulance transported the 14-year-old to BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, while the 22-year-old was flown to Vancouver General Hospital.

The extent of the injuries incurred has not been made public.

Alcohol has been ruled out as a contributing factor, said Kenning.

Many people stopped to help the two females and Kenning conveyed the RCMP’s appreciation for their assistance.

Setting it straight

In a letter to the editor “Council insists on Willingdon library,” published Wednesday, May 21, the author, Elaine Teichgraber of Willingdon Watch Group, incorrectly included the date Resolution 12-190 was passed.

The resolution was passed at the July 5, 2012 regular council meeting and not at the committee of the whole meeting on May 15, 2014.
