Directors award recreation strategy contract

Powell River Regional District directors awarded a contract to Gary Young Associates to produce a regional recreation strategy report for a fee of $14,000. According to the terms of reference, the objective of the initiative is to have “long-term sustainability of effective and efficient local government recreation services in the region at a level equal to, or greater than, which is provided today and the ability for existing and future service providers to expand and adjust those services to meet evolving public needs and expectations.”

Savary fire hall

Directors endorsed short-term borrowing of $98,374 to finance the upgrade of the Savary Island fire hall. The project is estimated to cost $157,500. The remainder of the funds will come from the community works reserve.

Board procedure

Directors adopted an amended board procedure bylaw, which allows directors to participate in both board and committee meetings electronically if they are in the regional district area.

Salary review

Directors passed a motion directing staff to issue a call for proposals to conduct a review of exempt staff salaries. Staff will bring forward recommendations for updates, amendments and/or changes to the existing policy governing exempt staff salaries.

Financial assistance

Directors authorized a $500 grant for the 2013 RCMP CrimeStoppers program. Electoral Areas A, B, C and D are contributing to the grant.
