Powell River Regional District directors adopted the emergency preparedness regional service establishment bylaw amendment at the December board meeting. It expands the emergency preparedness service to include City of Powell River as a participant. The first three readings were passed at the October board meeting and the bylaw was subsequently approved by the Inspector of Municipalities.
Directors also voted to establish a regional emergency management advisory committee and approved the terms of reference for the committee.
Food bank
Directors endorsed a $1,350 grant-in-aid to the Powell River Action Centre Food Bank, with $1,095 from Area A and $255 from Area B. Area A’s contribution includes a donation from Area C, with the favour returned sometime in 2012.
Library appointments
Directors passed a motion to re-appoint Rob Arnstein to Powell River Public Library board for a two-year term, to expire December 31, 2013. Directors also appointed Merrick Anderson, Lasqueti Island director, to Vancouver Island Regional Library board for 2012. They appointed Laurence Fisher as his alternate.
Board nomination
Directors nominated Colin Palmer, regional board chair and Electoral Area C director, to the Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities interim board.
Bylaw
Directors adopted an amendment to the Myrtle Pond water service bylaw that increases the maximum amount that may be requisitioned by parcel tax from $13,515 to $21,075. The amendment was given three readings at the October board meeting and was subsequently approved by the Inspector of Municipalities.
