Review suggests 23 recommendations

City will carry out actions with no cost

Powell River Recreation Complex service review has received unanimous assent from City of Powell River elected officials.

At the Thursday, July 3, council meeting, councillors were presented with a recommendation regarding the review, which was publicly presented at the committee of the whole meeting on Thursday, June 19.

The recommendation requested that the review be received, and city staff be directed to implement the recommendations that can be carried out immediately, with no impact on the existing budget for 2014. Further, the recommendation instructs council to provide direction to staff after the final Powell River Regional District recreation review has been presented to the regional board and city council.

Councillor Chris McNaughton asked if the city had received the final recreation review through the regional district.

Mac Fraser, chief administrative officer, said he had seen a draft and he believes it is on the agenda for a future regional board meeting.

Councillor Myrna Leishman said there were a number of recommendations in the service review and she wants to see those recommendations followed through on an ongoing basis. This way, the city can determine which ones can be initiated this year without any cost, and which ones will be planned for when the city has the money, she said.

The service review, from Gary Young and Associates, outlined 23 separate recommendations for changes or alterations to recreation programming in Powell River.
