School board chooses officers committees

Chair and vice resume posts

Powell River Board of Education school trustees selected board officers and the committees they would serve on in the board’s first public meeting since last month’s civic elections.

Jeanette Scott, incumbent trustee and previous board chair, was again selected to speak for the five-member board through acclamation. Trustee Mary James put forward Scott’s name, a nomination seconded by Doug Skinner. No other trustees were nominated.

Skinner, also an incumbent trustee and previous vice-chair, was also brought back through acclamation. Incumbent trustee Aaron Reid nominated Skinner. Trustee Ashley Hull nominated Reid for the post, however no other trustee seconded the nomination, so Skinner was acclaimed. Skinner was also elected to the post of BC School Trustee Association representative.

Reid, however was selected for provincial councillor through acclamation, a nomination which James seconded.

During that meeting, Tuesday, December 16, at the School District 47 administration building, the board also decided which school each would represent and which committees and community groups each trustee would serve on. All trustees will work together to represent Texada Elementary School.
