School district welcomes international students

Public invited to explore Chinese culture

School District 47 welcomed another group of Sino Bright students to Powell River for their Canadian summer school experience.

The 69 students’ Pacific Coastal Airlines flight landed at the airport on Thursday, July 9. The students, who study BC school curriculum in Beijing, will spend the next six weeks in Powell River improving their English skills, enjoying outdoor learning at Haywire Bay and sampling Canadian culture.

Sino Bright has its campus located inside Oceanview Education Centre and has students arrive twice per year in addition to those who stay during the full academic calendar. The summer experience allows students to meet the requirements, set by the Province of BC, for high school graduation.

In turn, Vancouver Island University (VIU), Sino Bright and the school district have invited the community to explore Chinese culture at an event organized from 1 to 3 pm on Thursday, July 23, at VIU Powell River. Participants will learn about Chinese calligraphy, music, clothing and much more from exchange student presentations.
