Woman arrested for involvement with minor boys

A 24-year-old Powell River woman is facing pending charges of sexual interference with underage boys after an arrest was made by RCMP on May 9, 2011.

On May 8, 2011 RCMP received a call from a parent concerned that her 15-year-old son was having a sexual relationship with an adult woman. An investigation into the complaint revealed a second young male under the age of consent as a potential victim. The following day a search warrant was executed, which resulted in the woman’s arrest and the seizure of a computer. Police confirm they have recovered images of sexual contact between the suspect and at least one of the boys.

RCMP Sergeant Cam Muir said that further charges, including those related to child pornography, may be applicable and that the investigation remains ongoing. He would not say whether or not the images seized were posted online.

“The circumstances of this particular investigation are quite unique,” said Muir. “This is a unique file in the course of my career...We remain committed to throughly investigating all the circumstances that led up to this.”

The accused woman has been released on conditions and RCMP will not reveal her name until charges have been approved by crown counsel. The accused is set to make her first appearance in court on July 20, 2011.

In Canada, the age of consent was raised from 14 to 16 years in May 2008. At 16, a person is considered legally competent to make his or her own decisions relating to consenting to sexual activity.
