Summer weather arrives early for Powell River residents

Environment Canada issues weather statement about upcoming ridge of high pressure
Sunny days ahead

Powell River will have its first heat wave of the season beginning Saturday, June 16, and lasting until at least the middle of next week.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement on Friday, June 15.

The cool showery weather of the first two weeks of June, which locals refer to as “June-uary,” will give way to a strong and persistent ridge of high pressure, according to the statement.

By Father’s Day, on Sunday, June 17, temperatures away from the immediate coast will start to hover between 27 degrees Celsius and peak into the low 30s.

According to the federal government’s national weather service, the weather pattern will remain in effect until Thursday, June 21, if not longer, for eastern Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast.
