ANNUAL CELEBRATION: Texada Island’s fly-in will take place at the Texada Island Airport on July 31.

qathet Regional District (qRD) directors have given approval for the Texada Annual Fly-In to take place at the Texada Island Airport on July 31, between 8:30 am and 3 pm.

At the April 26 regional board meeting, directors received correspondence from Texada Annual Fly-In coordinator Doby Dobrostanski, requesting permission for the fly-in. He stated that the event will require a special flying operations certificate to be issued by Transport Canada. The certificate is paid for by the Texada Arts, Culture and Tourism organization, stated Dobrostanski.

City director Cindy Elliott asked if there were implications for the regional district that directors should be aware of, before a decision was made.

Manager of asset management and strategic initiatives Arnold Schwabe said there are requirements in place but he did not believe there would be any objections to the request.

Electoral Area D alternate director Terry Hollo said this event has been going on for years and is a big event after the aerospace camp for children which is held on the island.

“It’s a big finale,” said Hollo, “and a very much looked-forward-to event on Texada Island.”
