Vandals strike two businesses

Police ask public for assistance

Powell River RCMP are investigating two accounts of vandalism to businesses. Both incidents occurred either late evening Tuesday, May 29 or in the early hours of Wednesday, May 30.

The first complaint came from Rona Building Centre where unknown suspects had entered the lumberyard and thrown paint over the area. A car parked in the yard was also covered in paint.

The second complaint came from WalMart where suspects had entered the garden centre and poured fertilizer and grass seed throughout the compound.

Police estimate the total damages incurred to be approximately $3,500.

“These two crimes are cowardly and senseless,” said Sergeant Rod Wiebe of the Powell River detachment in a release. “These types of offences have only one result—associated costs which have to be passed onto the consumer.”

Local forensic specialists examined both scenes and the investigation is ongoing.

Police are asking anyone who has information on this or any other crime to call the detachment at 604.485.6255. To remain anonymous, callers can contact CrimeStoppers at 1.800.222.8477 (TIPS).
