Heather passed peacefully from this life, at home surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in New Westminster and grew up in Cloverdale.

As a graduate of the St. Paul's Hospital nursing program in 1969, she was an outstanding nurse in almost every possible area of nursing. Later, she received her bachelor's degree in nursing. She loved being a nurse and was born to do that work but she especially loved palliative care.

When she and Sandy moved to Powell River in 2007, Heather continued to work as a long-term care case manager in community health, but she also contributed volunteer hours to the community through her involvement with the Lions Club. But most importantly, Heather worked tirelessly as one of the founding directors of the Four Tides Hospice Society in Powell River, where she also served as president for a number of years.

Heather was very creative and her beautiful stained-glass pieces grace many homes in qathet. She was also known for her gorgeous gardens and her knowledge and endless energy for gardening and landscaping. A few years ago she took on the challenge of learning to play the flute and for many years she made soaps, shampoos, lotions and salves. She was also an exceptionally capable person. There were few jobs, inside or outside of their home, that she could not do.

Left to grieve are Heather's spouse of 34 years Sandy McCartie, Heather's son Robert (Barb) Baldwin, Heather's daughter Cindy (Tim) Stewart, grandchildren Joshua, Emory, Noah, Sarah and Jonah, and many dear friends.

Her family wishes to express its gratitude to Dr. Burns, Dr. Herbst, palliative care nurses Jill, Jodie and Brenna, and the Home Support team who helped to ease Heather's final days and demonstrated kindness, respect and compassion.

Heather's celebration of life is planned for Saturday, February 3, at 2 pm in the clubhouse in Blue Mountain Estates, 234 - 7575 Duncan Street, Powell River. In lieu of flowers, donations to Four Tides Hospice Society would be gratefully received.
