We are saddened to announce the passing of Milton Goodfellow Johnson, who left us on June 6 after many years of managing cancer and other health challenges. He sported his well-worn pin stating, “I’ve survived damn near everything,” right to the end.

Despite these chronic health difficulties, Milton never lost his gratitude—for his life, for those around him, and especially for his caregivers and support network. He was particularly thankful for the steadfast support and care of his brother Henry (Gord) and sister-in-law Patricia (Trish).

Born to Henry and Pamela Johnson, Milton was one of five siblings—Glen, Sue, Henry (Gord), and half-sister Robin—and a lifelong resident of the qathet region. He held a deep knowledge of its history, families and landscapes, with a special connection to Powell Lake.

Milton built a career operating heavy machinery, including extensive time in Haida Gwaii, before founding Tesquioit Contracting in qathet. Though his work was grounded in the trades, he was a voracious reader and passionate historian, and had an encyclopedic knowledge of family genealogy, world events and historical leaders. Most mornings he could be found discussing these and many other issues over coffee at the local store with his circle of friends.

Generosity was one of Milton’s defining traits. He contributed quietly but significantly to local causes, youth programs and sports teams, including Tla’amin soccer and the Powell River Paper Kings.

Above all, Milton was proud of his family. He held a steady, genuine and unwavering love for his surviving siblings, their spouses, and nieces and nephews. He expressed often that he hoped to be remembered by his grand-nieces.

We will always remember your booming laugh, your pride in us, your passion for muscle cars and the generosity with which you lived.
