Josh Zary scored twice, including the winner in overtime, to lead Alberni Valley Bulldogs to a 3-2 win over Powell River Kings on Friday, January 21.

Kings held one-goal leads in each of the first two periods, but the visiting Bulldogs responded on both occasions with tying goals.

Jason Marsella set up Ethan Riesterer eight minutes into the BC Hockey League game at Hap Parker Arena to give the home team its first lead. Cody Melady responded for Alberni four minutes later.

Kings took their second lead of the night when Mark D’Agostino scored the lone goal of period two at 2:39, his ninth goal of the BC Hockey League (BCHL) season, assisted by Maxim Potvin and Dylan Finlay.

Zary’s first of the game on a power play at 6:42 of the third period sent the game to overtime. Kings killed off a five-on-three power play late in the game after Karter McNarland and Anthony Lucarelli took penalties three seconds apart with under three minutes to play.

Only 10 seconds remained in the extra frame when Zary sealed the victory with his 17th goal of the season.

Bulldogs outshot the Kings 41-31. Attendance was 594.

The two teams meet again tonight (January 22) at Hap Parker Arena. Kings will be looking to snap a five-game losing streak at home. Game time is 7 pm.
