New Powell River Kings’ assistant coach Harry Mahesh brings a wealth of one-ice and behind-the-bench experience to the BC Hockey League club.

Powell River Kings have bolstered their coaching staff with the hiring of new assistant Harry Mahesh.

Born in Vanderhoof, Mahesh returns to his home province to join head coach Brock Sawyer and fellow assistant Kyle Bodie.

“I am very excited to be in Powell River this season,” stated Mahesh. “This is a team on the rise and I’m thankful for the opportunity that [general manager] Chad [van Diemen] and Brock have given me to help be a part of the success we hope to achieve here.”

Mahesh had a successful junior career as a forward, appearing in 175 games over three seasons with the Winkler Flyers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL). After his time with the Flyers, he played six professional seasons split between the Federal Prospects Hockey League, Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) and Swedish HockeyEttan League.

Mahesh began his coaching career in 2016 with Banff Hockey Academy and went on to serve as an assistant coach with Winkler and Selkirk Steelers (MJHL). He was a head coach with Pilot Mound Academy U17 boys and girls teams in Manitoba and Winnipeg Freeze (MJHL), where he coached new Kings’ forward Ryder Ringor.

Mahesh and Sawyer played against one another in the SPHL.

“I’m excited to work with Brock as we have crossed paths in our hockey careers and share a lot of former mutual teammates,” stated Mahesh. “From everything I have heard, this is going to be a great fit with him and Kyle on the bench this season.”
