STEPPING UP: Caleb Bentham is moving from the BCEHL’s South Island Royals to BCHL’s Powell River Kings for the 2022/2023 hockey season.

Powell River Kings recently announced the signing of defender Caleb Bentham for the 2022/2023 BC Hockey League season.

Bentham, who is from Victoria, played last season with the South Island Royals U18 team in the BC Elite Hockey League (BCEHL), where he finished fifth in team scoring and led all defenders by collecting five goals and 17 assists in 35 games.

Prior to playing for the Royals, Bentham spent three years with Pacific Coast Academy (Canadian Sport School Hockey League).

In May, Bentham attended the Kings’ spring camp and made an impression on the coaching staff.

“He stood out with poise with the puck and his skating ability” stated coach Brock Sawyer. “He defends the rush well and possesses good habits with and without the puck. We are excited to welcome Caleb and the Bentham family to Powell River.”

The 17-year-old is expected to be the youngest player on the roster when training camp opens September 1. The regular season kicks off September 23 at home versus Nanaimo.
