Powell River Kings and Coquitlam Express met for the eighth time this season on April 30. The teams will play twice more in the next week.

Powell River Kings scored once in each period en route to a 3-2 win over Coquitlam Express on Friday, April 30.

Brody Johnston, Owen Barrow and Tyden McWillis were the goal scorers for the Kings, who never trailed during the BC Hockey League game at Scotia Barn in Burnaby.

Coquitlam evened the score at 1-1 late in the first period and cut a two-goal, third period Kings’ lead to 3-2 with four minutes remaining, but were unable to beat goaltender Jacob Drapeau again.

Drapeau made 29 saves on 31 shots to earn the win. Jaden Little stopped 23 of 26 shots for Coquitlam.

Caleb Parkhouse picked up an assist on Barrow’s second-period marker. Johnston’s goal in the first period and the eventual game-winner in the third from McWillis were unassisted.

McWillis was named the game’s first star ahead of Coquitlam’s Christian MacDougall (second) and Johnston (third).

With the win, Powell River improved its record against Coquitlam in the Burnaby pod to six wins and two losses.

Kings have a quick turnaround, returning to action for an afternoon game against Surrey Eagles at 1 pm on Saturday, May 1.
