Sliammon Junior Braves soccer teams recently attended the Totem Soccer 2013 tournament held in Victoria.
The Braves under 12 team finished first after defeating Seabird 2-1, Cowichan Eagles 2-0, Saanich Blues 3-0 and Shell Beach/Kuper Island in the final game 2-0. James Timothy was presented with the Most Valuable Player award, while Alana Washington and Mark Silvey received all-star awards.
The Braves under 10 team had strong victories against Songhees, Kuper Island and Gilford Island before falling short to Musqueam 4-3 in a tough loss. Jerod Timothy received an all-star award for his efforts.
“I am very proud of the Sliammon Junior Braves teams,” said coach Dave Moon, who plans to take the teams to a tournament in Duncan on the Mother’s Day weekend. The Braves are actively fundraising around town with bottle drives, and they have a bank account at CIBC for anybody wishing to support the teams by making a cash donation.
