Another goaltender from the Kootenay region of BC will be in the crease for Powell River Kings next season. Erik Powers, who is stands at six-feet, five-inches tall, will form a tandem with returning goalie Ryan Tamelin, who is also from Invermere.
“I’m really excited to be coming out to Powell River; it seems like a great community and a beautiful place to be,” stated Powers, who signed with the Kings for the 2025/2026 BC Hockey League season. “I’m looking forward to joining the team and getting involved both on and off the ice.”
Powers suited up for two Ontario Junior Hockey League team last season: King Rebellion and Aurora Tigers. Over 23 games he compiled a 3.85 goals against average and .913 save percentage, to go along with two shutouts.
“Erik is a southpaw goalie with a big frame,” stated Kings head coach and general manager Stephan Seeger Jr. “He never gives up on second and third opportunities and will make a save by any means necessary. He is a fighter between the pipes.”
Powers and Tamelin have known each other for many years.
“I’m truly excited to reunite with Ryan,” stated Powers, who was born in 2006. “We’ve been teammates since the start of our goaltending careers, and while our paths separated after our U15 days, we’ve always maintained contact and a strong friendship. I’m excited to play and grow together with Ryan this upcoming season.”
