VIDEO Although a little later than usual, Brooks Secondary School ran through its annual fundraiser run for cancer research on Wednesday, March 11.
All of the high school’s students ran, or in some cases walked, the three-kilometre Townsite course of the Jasper Mohan/Terry Fox Run.
“This is a make up for the run we normally do in October,” Ken Holley, teacher and track and field coach, said.
Many schools around the province postponed their school runs because of the late start to the school year due to strike action. Holley said Brooks’ organizers wanted to wait until the weather improved in the spring to run the event.
The fastest completion times for the loop were about eight minutes, Holley added.
In addition to the run being a Terry Fox Foundation fundraiser for cancer research, it was also part of the school’s Milk Run promotion, in conjunction with the Brooks cafeteria and Jump Rope for Heart.
Holley said at the 2013 event students raised $1,800, about $2 per student. This year he said he hoped the school could surpass that amount. “It’s all for a good cause,” he said.
