Female gymnasts from Powell River Gymnastics Society recently attended the Winterfest 2014 Competition at Club Aviva in Coquitlam.

Many Powell River club members participated and it was a good opportunity to test the young athletes against their peers in other communities.

The competition was divided into different age groups and level of skill required, moving up in age from pre-argo to argo, tyro, novice and open. Provincial 1 through 5 then national are specific skills required at each level, with the higher the level the harder the skills and more requirements needed.

Emma Parsons and Dylan Anderson competed in Women’s Provincial 1 - Argo. Parsons was ninth in vault, fourth in bars, seventh in beam, ninth in floor and eighth in AA. Anderson was seventh in vault, 11th in bars, fifth in beam, 12th in floor and seventh in AA.

Jessa McLaren, Olivia Warman and Hillary English took part in Women’s Provincial 2 - Argo. McLaren was first in vault, sixth in bars, 10th in beam, fourth in floor and fifth in AA. Warman was 10th in vault, 11th in bars, fourth in beam, fifth in floor and sixth in AA. English was 14th in vault, second in bars, 12th in beam, 15th in floor and 10th in AA.

Victoria Lecouteur participated in Women’s Provincial 2 - Tyro, coming 10th in bars, 15th in beam, 10th in floor and 14th in AA.

Katya Senilova and Katie Dohm participated in Women’s Provincial 3 - Novice. Senilova came first in vault, first in bars, first in beam, second in floor and first in AA. Dohm came second in vault, eighth in bars, fifth in beam, first in floor and fourth in AA.

The Interclub away group also participated, consisting of Kayla Baker, Madison Belyea, Kate Forbes, Jordyn Mackenzie, Zayda Neem and Breanna Solowan.
