Powell River RCMP Constable Jen Crossman is holding two events in Powell River this month, to raise money to fight pediatric cancers.

Crossman said she hopes to raise $6,000 in aid of the Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast event in September, a nine-day, 900-kilometre cycle through Squamish, Pemberton, along the Sunshine Coast through to Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. Crossman is participating in the event.

“This event really hits home because everybody knows, or has known, someone with cancer,” she said.

A Pole-Sit will see Crossman high above Quality Foods, between 9 am and 4 pm on Saturday, June 13. This event includes a for-donation hot dog barbecue.

A golf tournament, the second event, will be held at Myrtle Point Golf Course on Saturday, June 27. Tee-off begins at 1 pm with a shotgun start, where golfers tee-off simultaneously from different holes.

Golfers can vie for prizes, including a trip for two to Puerto Vallarta, a vehicle, or two $10,000-cash prizes.

There will also be prizes for hole-in-ones and officers will be offering drives for donations at the third hole.

“Last year we had three holes in one,” said Crossman.

The golf event cost includes green fees and a meal in the clubhouse, $85 for members, $95 for non-members.
