Powell River Kings struggled offensively for the second straight night, failing to score in a 6-0 loss to Coquitlam Express 24 hours after dropping a 4-1 decision to Langley Rivermen.

Kings’ goaltender Matthias Smith turned aside 43 of the 49 shots he faced while his teammates were stymied on all 23 shot attempts sent toward Express goalie Connor Mackenzie, who was named the game’s first star.

Coquitlam converted two of four power play opportunities into goals, and also scored once while shorthanded. Powell River had seven chances with the extra attacker but came up short on each occasion.

With the win, the Express moved to within one point of the seventh place Kings in BC Hockey League (BCHL) Island Division standings.

Attendance at Poirier Sports and Leisure Centre in Coquitlam was 610.

Powell River completes its three-game road trip against Surrey Eagles on Sunday, December 19. Game time is 4 pm.
