Coquitlam Express sweep weekend set with Powell River Kings

Powell River Kings scored the first and final goals versus Coquitlam Express on October 8, but the in-between portion of the BC Hockey League (BCHL) game was dominated by the visitors.

Kings’ forward Anthony Lucarelli opened the scoring four minutes into the first period for a 1-0 lead, which lasted until the nine-minute mark when the Express equalized.

Coquitlam added a trio of goals in the second period and two more early in the third for a commanding 6-1 lead. Anthony Yu rounded out the scoring for the home team to make the final 6-2.

Coquitlam outshot Powell River 36-34. Both teams were unsuccessful on three power plays each. Attendance at Hap Parker Arena was 665.

Express 5, Kings 3

The previous evening, also at Hap Parker Arena, Coquitlam skated to a 5-3 win over Powell River.

Maxim Potvin scored twice for the Kings, who trailed 3-0 after 20 minutes and 3-1 heading into period three. Express added a pair of goals in the final frame before Yu replied while the Kings were shorthanded. Both teams capitalized once on power plays, including Potvin’s second-period goal.

Shots were 38-37 in favour of the visitors. Attendance was reported as 714.
