Coquitlam outlasts Powell River in BCHL shoot-out

After meeting on four occasions in 12 days to start the BC Hockey League season, one goal separates Powell River Kings (20) and Coquitlam Express (19).

In the latest tightly contested matchup at Scotia Barn in Burnaby on April 15, Coquitlam outlasted Powell River 5-4 in a shoot-out following a scoreless overtime period with the teams tied at four goals apiece.

Neither team led by more than a goal throughout the game, which was tied 1-1 after 20 minutes and 3-3 after the second period.

Kings led on four occasions; the Express bounced back within four minutes in response to the first two deficits and needed fewer than 20 seconds to tie the game after falling behind 3-2 and 4-3.

Caleb Parkhouse scored his first two goals of the campaign for the Kings, whose overall record in the Burnaby pod fell to three wins and four losses. Adamo Santia also scored twice for Powell River, his fifth and six goals of the season.

Kings’ goaltender Nick Peters and his counterpart Dylan Kruss each made 31 saves on the night.

Each team has won twice in the season series, with Powell River prevailing 5-4 on April 9 and 5-3 (empty-net) on April 12. Coquitlam took the first contest on April 3 by a 7-6 margin.

Kings face Surrey Eagles at Scotia Barn tonight. The Eagles have won two of the three previous matchups this year, 5-4 on April 7 and 8-1 on April 10. Kings took the first meeting 5-2 on April 4. Game time tonight is 7:30 pm.
