Major midget hockey plans special weekend

Powell River hockey player Hunter Findlater has been selected to the 2014 BC Major Midget League All Star Rosters.

The forward plays with North Island Silvertips out of Nanaimo and has been called up for several games with Powell River Kings of BC Hockey League, including Friday, January 3.

On Monday, January 6, BC Hockey announced the rosters for the all star game that will be held Friday, January 17, at George Preston Centre in Langley. It is the kickoff of the major midget league weekend from January 18 to 19 at various locations in Langley, Coquitlam and Richmond.

Players were evaluated on their on-ice and off-ice performance by the all star game selection committee.

Some notable league graduates who have competed in the all star game include: Griffin Reinhart of Edmonton Oil Kings, 2010; Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of Edmonton Oilers, 2009; Brett Connolly of Tampa Bay Lightning, 2008; and Evander Kane of the Winnipeg Jets, 2007.

BC Hockey Major Midget League was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15-, 16- and 17-year-olds with an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. The teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the National Midget Championship.
