Frustrated Mohawks damage hotel rooms
Prince George Mohawk’s frustration of not scoring a goal during their Coy Cup semi-final round with Powell River Regals was obvious in the hotel where they stayed.
“We are still estimating the damage they caused,” a representative of the Powell River Motor Inn said Tuesday. “When they left Sunday morning it looked like World War Four up there.”
She declined to give an estimate of the damage caused by players and fans but termed it “very destructive.” She added that an estimate of the damage would be available by the end of the week. She said two doors had been ripped off in their suites on the lower floor.
She said most of the cost of the damage would be for cleanup of the mess.
“There were no mirrors, windows or television sets broken.”
The Prince George hockey club has offered to pay for the damage, she said, as soon as the damage estimates and cleanup bills are tallied. She explained that the cleaning up and repairing were being done by different departments and costs for materials and labour won’t be known until the repairs are completed. She said the president of the club offered to pay for the damage on behalf of the club.
The spokesman said, “this was a very bad example on their part,” and added that she was glad Prince George hadn’t won the series. “If they did this much damage when they had lost, imagine what they would have done if they had won,” she said.
“I hope this isn’t the way our boys act when they are away for games,” she added.
