Golfer wraps season with victory

Division champion shoots one under par

A Powell River junior golfer has taken top spot in the final stop on a national youth golf tour.

Josh Legge, 18, claimed another Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) Junior Boys 17 to 19 title with his one-under-par game at University Golf Club in Vancouver, Saturday, October 5.

Seventy-four wait-listed golfers competed in the MJT Nationwide One Day Fall Series tournament.

As one of the division champions, Legge, a member of Myrtle Point Golf Club, hit a round of 71.

“Closing out this year with a win feels great—hard work pays off,” said Legge.

He noted that he wants to work as hard as possible in the off-season to prepare himself for next year.

He rated the course as “beautiful, and the conditions were soft, making a long, tough golf course.”

The season-long tournaments are open to golfers up to age 19, and this event is also a qualifier for spots in the San Diego Junior Masters Future Collegiate World Tour championship in Florida.

The tour is run exclusively by PGA of Canada Professionals and the “Road to College Golf” in Canada. MJT aims to develop champions, in golf and in life, promoting the game from grassroots through to provincial, national, university and provincial level.
