Good luck charms hit milestone

Powell River Horseshoe Pitching Club is celebrating its 30th anniversary this season. Officially formed in 1983, club members have been flinging horseshoes around pegs at Powell River Recreation Complex pitching courts ever since.

To celebrate the club’s milestone, donations were gratefully received from two grocery stores in the area and a large cake was shared at the first Mixed Open Tournament of the year, held Saturday, June 15.

Pitchers from all over Vancouver Island took part in the tournament and awards were presented at the end of a successful day to the following winners.

Class A: first Jerry Melissa of Victoria; second Lorraine Hubick, Powell River (PR); third Lionel Hanson, PR.

Class B: first Pat Stevens of Victoria; second Neil Groat, PR; third Paul Onyschtschuk, Port Alberni.

Class C: first Sandra Hanson, PR; second Ken Holland of Port Alberni; third Margie Woloshuk, PR.
