Horseshoe club winds up with awards

Member receives province-wide recognition

Powell River Horseshoe Club ended its season with a grand banquet and award night. Pitchers and their guests packed the room for a fun and exciting night of awards, both expected and unexpected.

Trophies were awarded as follows:

    •    Smith trophy (novice) went to Bill Small.

    •    Cec Coultry trophy went to Frank Hubick.

    •    Al Hoffman trophy went to Sandra Hanson.

    •    Ted Simmons trophy went to Bob Simmons.

    •    Doubles trophy went to Margie Woloschuk and Lionel Hanson.

    •    Nick Rusnak trophy for under 20 per cent was presented to Les Ortloff, and over 20 per cent went to Carol Skrodolis.

    •    League trophy went to the All Stars—Skrodolis, Diane Norman, Marguerite Kitchen, Derek Boyes and Faye Harvey.

    •    League play-off trophy went to Serge Dube, Lorraine Hubick, Russ Jones, Lillian Bourassa and Irene Smith.

A special certificate from the Canadian Horseshoe Association was awarded to Vito Cimaglia by Lorraine, who is the Vancouver Island, Powell River, Lower Mainland representative. Cimaglia holds the 2011 record in British Columbia for the most improved player in the Elders 30-foot class of 14.21 per cent.
