Powell River Kings season has ended in overtime for the second year in row.

The team travelled to Prince George for game five of their best-of-seven BC Hockey League semi-final series on Thursday, April 5, and came up one goal short in their quest to extend the series to a sixth game at home.

Powell River forward Kyle Kawamura gave the visitors the lead with an unassisted goal at 12:36 of the third period and goaltender Matteo Paler-Chow turned away every Prince George shot until the home team tied the game with just over a minute remaining in regulation.

Prince George outshot Powell River 10-1 in overtime and were rewarded with the game and series-winning goal 9:42 into the extra frame. The 2-1 win sends the Spruce Kings to their first-ever BCHL final against either the Wenatchee Wild or Trail Smoke Eaters.

Paler-Chow stopped 47 of 49 shots and was named second star of the game. Powell River produced 30 shots on the night.

Attendance at Rolling Mix Arena was 2,032.
