Pitching shoes prepare for flight

Club hosts open house to start off new season

Powell River Horseshoe Pitching Club is ready to pitch shoes for the April to September season.

This year the club will celebrate its 30th anniversary. “What a fun time to continue pitching and the right time for those who would like to join us,” said club member Lorraine Hubick.

The club is open to all ages, who would like to see if they have eye to arm coordination. Though some may use an excuse such as “they have arm problems,” said Hubick, “when a person is shown the right way to pitch their horseshoe, it can be done with ease.” The key is to just give it a try, she added.

Current members are of all ages, and there is no cost for those who are 17 and under to play. The club will hold an open house from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm on Sunday, April 21 at the pitch at Powell River Recreation Complex. Attendees can watch some horseshoes, try out and enjoy doughnuts and refreshments.

“We have organized league on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 pm,” said Hubick. League play starts Thursday, May 2. Pitching shoes are available at the club.

Horseshoe pitching is a sport that affects every part of the body, inside and out. “Come down and be included in the fun and laughter.”
