Powell River Kings earn split with Alberni Valley

BC Hockey League clubs each pick up a win in weekend doubleheader at Hap Parker Arena

After being handed a 5-3 home loss to Alberni Valley 24 hours earlier, Powell River Kings bounced back to defeat the same Bulldogs 7-5 on Saturday, February 11, also at Hap Parker Arena.

Alexi Van Houtte-Cachero scored twice for the Kings, who trailed 3-2 after 20 minutes but outscored the Bulldogs by the same margin in period two to tie the game 5-5.

Will Jones scored the winning goal for the Kings at 9:08 of the third period. Rydor Ringor added an insurance marker on a power play at 17:07 to round out the scoring.

Van Houtte-Cachero also picked up an assist and was named the game’s first star, ahead of Alberni’s Nicholas Beneteau (second), who had a pair of assists, and Ringor (third).

Alex Sandhu, Parker Lalonde and Jack Blanchett also scored for Powell River. Shot totals were 45-19 in favour of the home team. Attendance was 658.

Next BC Hockey League (BCHL) action for the Kings is a home game versus Vernon Vipers on Friday, February 17. Game time is 7 pm.
