Powell River Kings even BCHL playoff series with Surrey Eagles

Games three and four take place at Hap Parker Arena on April 3 and April 4

Powell River Kings bounced back from a loss in game one and evened their best-of-seven first round BC Hockey League (BCHL) playoff series with Surrey Eagles at a game apiece on Saturday, April 1.

Adam Mendelson scored twice in the first period for the Kings at South Surrey Arena; both goals were set up by Cameron Symons. Dylan Hewlett gave the visitors a 3-0 early in the second period before the Eagles responded to make it 3-1 after 40 minutes of play.

Powell River jumped out to a 5-1 lead early in the third period with Jack Blanchett scoring 35 seconds after intermission and Ryder Ringor finding the back of the net just after the two minute mark. Surrey rallied with a pair of goals to make the final 5-3. Attendance was 1,155.

Kyle Metson, who was named the game’s second star, made 38 saves for the Kings, who were outshot for the second straight game, this time by a margin of 41-36. Mendelson received first star honours ahead of Metson and Rylan Bonkowski of the Eagles, who scored once.

Anthony Lucarelli, Casey Aman, Karter McNarland (two), Caleb Bentham and Anthony Yu helped set up goals for the Kings, who will host games three and four at Hap Parker Arena on Monday, April 3, and Tuesday, April 4.
