MAKING DIFFERENCE: Powell River Kings players and representatives appeared at the City of Powell River Council meeting on December 1 to introduce themselves and to receive a welcome from mayor and council. The Kings will be busy in a number of activities this week, focused on the holiday season.

According to Corinne Williams, the Kings’ marketing and promotions director, this festive season, the theme is Together We Can Make a Difference.

Williams said that on December 3 against Cowichan Valley Capitals (5 pm), the Kings will host their teddy bear toss.

“We have partnered with Townsite Brewing and Waypoint Insurance to help Christmas Cheer,” said Williams. “Kings donated a signed stick to Lorelei Guthriel, organizer of Christmas Cheer, to raffle off the stick to raise funds. We also donated FreshCo Score and Win cards.

Williams said all funds raised on December 3 will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $1,000 by Waypoint Insurance. She said teddy bears can be purchased at the game and tossed on the ice when the Kings score.

On December 7, from 6 to 8 pm, the Kings will be at the Winter Wonderland public skate. Donations to Powell River Action Centre Food Bank will give skaters a free entry.

Williams said at the December 10 home game against Surrey Eagles (7 pm), the team will accept a non-perishable item or cash donation, which will get fans $5 off a game night ticket. She said these funds and non-perishable items will go to the food bank.

Kings players have also been involved in community service at various establishments to promote the Salvation Army kettle bells.
