Powell River Kings score twice, fall short in Chilliwack

Powell River Kings snapped a five-period goal drought against Chilliwack Chiefs on September 25, but fell just short in a 3-2 loss.

After a scoreless first period, Chilliwack took a 1-0 lead at 15:04 of period two. The home team increased its lead to 2-0 at the 1:39 mark of the third period before Hunter Andrew scored a shorthanded goal for Powell River at 11:03 to cut the lead to one.

Chiefs added the eventual game winner two minutes later. Ethan Riesterer rounded out the scoring at 17:53, with assists going to Kings’ teammates Olivier Lepine and Karter McNarland, who also assisted on Andrew’s goal.

Goaltender Kenny Gerow stopped 31 of 34 shots for the Kings in defeat. Kings’ skaters combined to send a total of 19 shots at his counterpart in the Chiefs’ net.

Chilliwack defeated Powell River 4-0 the previous night.

Kings wrap up the weekend with an afternoon game in Langley on September 26. Game time is 2 pm.

Kings kickoff the BC Hockey League (BCHL) regular season at home on October 8 against Nanaimo Clippers.
