Powell River Kings halted an eight-game losing streak with a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Cowichan Valley Capitals at Hap Parker Arena on Wednesday, February 2. The victory came exactly one month after the Kings’ last win, 5-2 over the same Capitals team in Duncan on January 2.

Powell River fell behind 1-0 in the first period, but responded with a tying goal 13 minutes into period two, the first of a flurry of goals by the two BC Hockey League (BCHL) clubs over a five-minute span.

Dylan Hewlett set up the first goal for the home team, the fifth of the season for Ethan Riesterer. Cowichan took another lead two minutes later at 15:08, but it was short-lived. Kings took control in the final minutes before intermission.

At the 17:23 mark, Parker Lalonde knotted the score at 2-2 courtesy of a setup by Jason Marsella and Karter McNarland. Just over a minute later, Sam Belanger and Mark D’Agostino combined to assist on Maxim Potvin’s game-winning goal.

The third period was scoreless. Attendance was 517.

Kings’ goaltender Zak Brice stopped 37 of 39 shots to earn first star honours ahead of Potvin (second) and Capitals’ forward Massimo Sarantos Lombardi. McCoy Bidewell made 33 saves for the visitors.

Powell River returns to action this weekend with road games in Cowichan on February 4 and Alberni Valley the next night. Both games start at 7 pm.

The next home games take place February 11 (7 pm) and February 12 (5 pm) against Nanaimo. The February 11 game was previously scheduled for February 13, and those tickets will be valid for entry at the rescheduled game.
