Playing in a rare Tuesday night game, Powell River Kings fell 4-1 to the host Langley Rivermen on December 17.
Langley opened the scoring 6:42 into the game to take a 1-0 lead. Rowan Miller answered for the Kings, scoring his sixth of the season on a breakaway, unassisted, while his team was shorthanded late in the first period.
Rivermen scored the eventual winning goal midway through the second period and added two insurance markers in the third to seal the win in front of their hometown crowd. Attendance at George Preston Arena was 638.
Kings’s goaltender Thomas Wardle stopped 22 of 26 shots fired his way. His teammates directed 27 shots at Rivermen goalie Kristian Lyon, who turned aside all but one.
Powell River is tied for third place in BC Hockey League Island Division standings with Alberni Valley. Both teams have 36 points, 13 fewer than first place Nanaimo and 12 behind Cowichan Valley. Victoria is last in the division with 28 points.
Powell River’s four-game road trip continues tonight in Merritt, followed by stops in Penticton on Friday, December 20, and Wenatchee on Saturday, December 21.
