A comeback attempt by Powell River U18 Kings fell just short on Sunday, October 1, when Campbell River Tyees hung on for a 4-3 win at Hap Parker Arena.

Tyees jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two periods, despite being heavily outshot. Powell River continued the onslaught of shots in the third period, which began with Tyler Durant and Evan Piniewski combining to set up Liam Carroll, who scored 32 seconds into the final frame to give the home team momentum.

Beau Jameson Gagne and Paxton Schreiber cut the lead to 4-3 near the midway point of the period, scoring one minute apart. Durant assisted on Gagne's goal and also recorded a helper, along with Tristan Hawkins, on the Schreiber marker.

Kings were unable to find a tying goal among the 69 shots directed at the Campbell River goal, compared to 11 in the entire game for the visitors.

U18 Kings travel over the Thanksgiving long weekend for a tournament in Comox.

In other minor hockey action on October 1, U11 Queens skated to a 7-1 win over Comox Valley on the rink at Powell River Recreation Complex. Hannah Ollson scored four times for the Queens. Norah Hughson, Ayla Ciarniello, Claire Statham and Molly Culos had one goal each.

U15 Queens were on the road in Sechelt on October 1 and picked up a 5-3 win over Sunshine Coast Blues. Goal scorers for the visitors included Nelle Liefsoens, with a hat-trick, Sienna Keays and Teegan Taylor.

The previous day, U15 Kings were shut out 8-0 at home by Comox Valley, which was one of several minor hockey games at the complex on September 30.
