Powell River Midget Rep Kings did not win on Tuesday, March 20, but kept their unbeaten streak alive at the BC Hockey Midget Tier 3 Championship in West Vancouver. The team skated to a 2-2 tie with Greater Vernon to finish round-robin play with a record of two wins and a tie.

Goaltender Cam Stevenson earned the victory in net while Izzy Brach and Cam McNeil paced the offence with one goal each.

“We play in the semis tomorrow [March 21] at 7 am,” said coach Andy Welsh. “If we win the final is tomorrow night at 8 pm.”

Powell River faces Terrace in the semi-final. The winner will meet either Mission or Squamish to determine a champion.

Meanwhile, in Nelson, BC, Powell River Bantam Rep Kings suffered their first loss at the BC Hockey Bantam Tier 3 Championship, falling 6-3 to Mission on March 20.

“Mission was a little bigger than us but we did okay,” said a parent of one of the Powell River players.

Powell River’s 2-1 record at the tournament earns the club a spot in the semi-final at 11 am on March 21 against the host team. The winner will face either Mission or Penticton in the final at 8 pm, also on March 21.

Third place games at both tournaments take place at 5 pm on March 21.
