Powell River U13 Kings reach medal round at BC championships

Minor hockey team will face South Okanagan in semi-final tonight

Powell River U13 Kings have finished in a tie for first place in Pool B at the BC Hockey Tier 3 provincial championships in West Vancouver.

Powell River defeated Cranbrook 7-2 on Wednesday, March 22, to match the three win, one loss record of the host club, which is also in Pool B.

Ryder Sherris earned the win in net, turning aside 14 of 16 shots, while his teammates peppered the opposition goalie with 47 shots.

Cooper Lawry, Kesler Brown, Kooper Kozmeniuk, with a hat-trick, James Barrows and Lucas Gruntman scored for the Kings, who will meet South Okanagan in the semi-final tonight at 5 pm. 

Gruntman and Lawry recorded two assists each; Barrows also set up one goal.

The winner of tonight's game will advance to the gold medal game on March 23 against either Arbutus or West Vancouver.
