Medal round spot booked by Powell River U15 Kings at provincials

Minor hockey team advances to semi-final with 4-1 win over Nelson

Powell River U15 Kings [above, in green] met Nelson in their final round-robin game at the Tier 3 provincial championships in Port Alberni on March 21, and booked a spot in the medal round with a 4-1 win.

Powell River U15 Kings completed round-robin play at the 2023 BC Hockey Tier 3 provincial championships with a 4-1 win over Nelson at Alberni Valley Multiplex.

Jaxson Peters scored in the first period to give Powell River a 1-0 lead, which Nathan Gruntman doubled with an unassisted marker in the second period.

Nelson cut its deficit in half with 13:28 remaining in the game, but the Kings added two insurance goals later in the third period, the first from Tristan Hawkins, followed by the final goal of the game off the stick of Beau Jameson Gagne. Goaltender Rowan Jones earned the win in net.

With the victory, Powell River finished in a tie atop Pool A with New Westminster (both with three wins and one loss) and will face Dawson Creek in one of two semi-final games in the morning on Wednesday, March 22. New Westminster will play Mission in the other semi-final matchup.

Bronze and gold medal games take place later in the day.
